Cheryl and Jim on "Harvest Moon" see us off as we leave the Prevost Harbor dock. A familiar boat, the hisstoric schooner Adventuress, is anchored in the harbor near the community dock. It looks like she has a group aboard for a day of sailing and learning about our marine environment. She is part of another one of the wonderful educational programs available in Puget Sound

Our cruise today takes us past a number of San Juan islands - Spieden, Jones, Shaw, Lopez, Blakely, Decatur, and Jones, as well as smaller islets, including small rocks that support populations of seabirds and seals.
The water is beautiful today, as are the skies and islands. We pass how many Ranger Tugs along the way? There are so many of us out enjoying the day! We notice the new dock on James Island. And we pass a National Wildlife Refuge where there are lots of birds on the small rock islets, mostly gulls and cormorants.
There is little boat traffic as we continue into Rosario Strait and make our way through Deception Pass at slack tide. Cruising couldn't be more beautiful!
We find a mooring buoy next to Hope Island, a state park, with time to enjoy the end of the afternoon. With the exception of primitive campsites for kayakers, the island is forested and undeveloped.
Evening, such a lovely time of day . . .

Seal Rock in Skagit Bay is crowded today. We have a hard time getting good photos as we are looking into the sun, but we give it a try anyway. We enjoy documenting what we see on each cruise.
As we round Strawberry Point on Whidbey Island, the Olympic mountains come into view. Now we have mountain ranges on either side of us, with the Cascades off our port side. The mountains are distant here, it isn't like practically being among them in the Broughtons and Desolation Sound, but still beautiful to see.

It's a smooth cruise to Edmonds. We fill up the tank at the fuel dock, then I head to shore to register while Dan tends to pumping out the holding tank. Well, that didn't go smoothly for him! I return to find that while walking NORTH STAR along the finger pier to the pumpout station, a wind gust pulled the boat away from him, and as he leaned to pull her back toward the pier - you guessed it - Dan got a surprise swim! All turned out well, the dock attendant had hold of the stern, and Dan was able to climb aboard and get the boat docked again. His only suffering was embarrassment.
Now for the best part of the day, the arrival of our daughter and three of our grandkids! It's such a treat to have some family time with them and share stories of summer adventures, theirs and ours.

Another sunset to enjoy . . .
