It's farewell to the warm swimming waters, the islet, the oyster encrusted shores, and the black oystercatchers of Pendrell Sound. What an idyllic spot, with wonderful mountain views, too! With the need for fresh water, bread, and produce, we are off to Refuge Cove and then a new destination. It has been beyond beautiful here and we are drenched with the splendors of this anchorage. We will return! It is already over 80 degrees when we leave and make our way to Refuge Cove.

Refuge Cove is the busiest place we have been since leaving Vancouver. It is absolutely bustling with boats coming in for fuel, groceries, a meal in the outdoor restaurant, and to visit the small shops. Seaplanes also make stops here to drop off and pick up passengers. And, kayak groups use the cove as a gathering spot. It is a fun place to be!
We especially enjoy the Kenmore airplane painted like an Orca whale and the telephone booth with a tin can on a string for the phone. We provision, have burgers on the deck, and top off the visit with ice cream cones. Fuel and water are topped off, and Roscoe Bay is chosen as our next destination.
The entrance to Roscoe Bay is narrow and shallow, and only passable at high water. It is a lovely spot to anchor, and the water is warm for swimming. We have a choice of swimming in salt water off the boat or walking to a nearby Black Lake for a fresh water dip. For today, we enjoy the salt water with a fresh water rinse from our solar shower.
Warm summer nights continue, so perfect for enjoying time in the cockpit of NORTH STAR and going for evening paddles.

Roscoe Bay layover day
Weather: Sunny, nice breeze, mid 80's
A short row to the spot to leave dinghies and then a walk along a wooded trail takes us to the lake for swimming and meeting our fellow boaters. The rocks are slippery, and a rope helps with getting in and out of the water.

We meet the crew of "Indigo", a Ranger Tug from Nanaimo, as well as a neighbor from Swantown Marina in Olympia. His sailboat, "Mokuloa", is anchored in front of us, and he SUP's by us for a chat. He has a three young sons as well as his wife aboard. The boys are having a great time climbing the rocks on shore and fishing.
We aren't done with swimming yet, we jump in off the swim step, deciding that we both prefer the salt water! Kayaking and rowing fill out the evening hours. Here is what we see:
