summer! the teaser
Yes, we have been boating this summer! We are just back from a fabulous seven weeks of soaking up the wonders of our Northwest waters. Actually, it was one day shy of being seven weeks, but we had a lot of time out there enjoying everything from wildlife to scenery to people to weather.
The cameras were busy, and there are more than a few thousand photos to sort through and edit before Boat Days can be updated with all of our adventures. It isn't one of those tasks that gets done while we are boating, we are too much immersed in the experience. And, focusing for hours on a computer on a rocking boat just isn't our idea of fun!
So here we are, just beginning to look at those photos, and they are giving us a chance to relive every leg of the cruise as we look for the ones that will tell our story. Stay tuned, it will eventually get done!
The teaser: Where did we go? Well, we started from our home port of Olympia, Washington, and cruised north through Puget Sound. Overnight stops included Des Moines, Langley, and Anacortes. Next came several nights in the San Juan Islands with stays on Jones and Sucia Islands. From there we made our way into Canadian waters and the very urban setting of False Bay in Vancouver, right next to the famous Granville Island markets. Continuing north along the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, time was spent in Gibsons and Pender Harbor. And then came one of the big highlights for us, Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls. We were so fortunate to visit while the waterfalls were still flowing. What a wondrous world! From there we discovered the very picturesque Harmony Islands with a 1400 foot waterfall nearby. Before continuing to Desolation Sound, a provisioning visit was made to Powell River. Desolation Sound anchorages included Tenedos, Melanie Cove, Pendrell Sound, Roscoe Bay, and Laura Cove. Believe me, the water was fantastic for swimming, so warm, as was the weather. We provisioned at Refuge Cove, and had a wonderful experience staying on the docks of the Toba Wilderness Marina.
The route home was just as filled with rich experiences. Our first stop was Comox on Vancouver Island, where we waited out the strong winds in the Strait of Georgia for three days. It was a great place to have to layover! Continuing south into the Gulf Islands, we found anchorages in Clam Bay at Thetis Island, Conover Cove on Wallace Island, and at Medicine Beach on North Pender Island.
And the adventures weren't over as we returned to U.S. waters. A stay in Watmough Bay at Lopez Island, a night at the Edmonds Marina, and an overnight on a buoy at Penrose Point State Park are part of our memories.
Is there a timeline? Not really. Once the photos are sorted, the story will get told bit by bit. For now we are busy catching up on home life, enjoying summer activities, and preparing to be on the water again for the month of September, starting with the annual Ranger Tug/Cutwater Rendezvous at Roche Harbor. We really can't wait to share our summer cruises with you, even if it turns out to be fall before we get everything posted.
Hope to see YOU on the water, happy cruising!
