It's a gorgeous morning for breakfast on the dock of Deer Harbor Marina.
After farewells with Pat and Dan, we, too, are on our way out of the harbor.
It's a super day for a cruise. While we are headed to Anacortes today, there is a parade of boats headed in the opposite direction, on their way to destinations for the long Fourth of July weekend. It's going to be busy on the water! We're headed to Anacortes for a bit of a break in our cruise. We will be spending five days with our daughter and grandkids in a house on Similk Bay and leaving NORTH STAR on the dock at Cap Sante Marina. The timing and location is perfect for us. We will be able to procure new batteries for NORTH STAR in Anacortes and have help from our grandsons to install them. We're looking forward to family time and to getting the electrical issues we have been experiencing under control.
We cruise out of Deer Harbor, enjoying the scenic shorelines.

Orcas Island is crowned with one long puffy white cloud.
Peavine Pass takes us between Obstruction Island and Blakely Island.
And we have so many islands in one view - Cypress is ahead to the right, Lummi to the left, Obstruction Island to port, and Blakely Island to starboard.
We are in the familiar Guemes Channel with boat yards and homes in our viewscape.
And then Cap Sante rises above us, and we face a parade of boats making their way out of the marina.
First stop is the fuel dock where the cost of diesel is still skyrocket high. Thankfully we don't have a commercial sized tank to fill like many of vessels in the marina!
We have been assigned a slip far out on the tip of N dock, and it is a long haul to shore as well as a difficult spot to hook up to water for filling our tank. A chat with the office staff gets us a more convenient spot on B dock right near the boat lift and right in with some colorful crabbing and fishing boats. The season is just opening up, and the boats are getting ready!
We walk to the West Marine store in Anacortes and confirm the purchase of two new batteries for NORTH STAR. Ouch! They don't come cheap! But, I find a wind/rain jacket on sale, does that compensate? We're hungry for fish and chips, and Anthony's outdoor Cabana is the perfect spot for dinner tonight. We love the setting!
An after dinner walk takes us along the docks and out to the park with the seafarers memorial.

Cap Sante Marina layover days
July 1: We prepare to leave NORTH STAR for the next several days while we have family time over the Fourth. And, we also prepare for changing out two of the boat batteries. Dan has had second thoughts about the West Marine batteries, thinking they aren't going to fit properly. Another walk to the store (after a great breakfast at Calico Cupboard), and the store staff person agrees with Dan that there is a problem with the potential fit. He sends us on to NAPA Autoparts. They, too, see that there is a problem in how the batteries might connect to the boat wiring. After a lot of head scratching, they come up with a pair of batteries that should work. And, they give Dan and the batteries a lift to the dock while I walk. Dan manages to wheel the batteries down the dock ramp in one of the boat carts and sets them on the finger pier next to the boat. They are heavy! Before we know it, a small crab boat pulls in beside us, and one of the guys on board sees the batteries, asks where they should go, and as if they are feathers, easily picks them up and sets them aboard NORTH STAR for us. How great is that! Our friendly muscleman:

Another problem is taken care of as well. A diver comes and in short order attaches a new zinc to the propeller.
Our family arrives, we are on our way for good times together. And Dan and our two grandsons return to NORTH STAR for a couple of hours on July 2 and get the battery job done. Good work, guys!
