Father's Day is today, and the weekend here at Blake Island really brought out the dads and kids to share good times together.  It is so fun to see them together! Boats are now leaving, the weekend is over, even the dock hosts are heading home (they worked hard!).  We have loved all of the action and interaction here on the dock, a great place to visit by boat and hang out for a few days.

Boats load up with gear and passengers.  Kids take a last look at the marine life on the edge of the dock.  A rowboat continues on its way, planning to row all the way to Olympia.  And Jim (the grandfather and owner of Salty Dawg (from Edmonds, and we are Huskies, too!) says goodbye to us and sees us off, assisting with our dock lines.

It's an easy cruise to Langley, except for areas of floating logs to avoid.  We have following seas and currents to push us along.  We have a reserved slip inside the breakwater.  Dinghies mounted vertically along the docks are a feature of the Langley marina.
Being from Olympia, the Evergreen State ferry, now privately owned, is a familiar site.  It sat for months on the Olympia waterfront.  Now it's here is Langley!

The town is busy on this Father's Day Sunday as we take a late afternoon stroll.  Langley is always an inviting place to visit with lots of flowers planted along the streets and interesting shops and shop windows.  Right now there is a trend for the windows of the shops to contain upbeat sayings. And, this town has some real phone booths!  When is the last time you have seen one of them, complete with phone book?

We drop a donation into the whale replica and enjoy the views of the water at low tide.
Gulls enjoy perching on the old pilings next to the marina.  We finish the day aboard NORTH STAR with a dinner in the cockpit.
Date:  June 20, 2022
Langley layover day
Weather:  Gray and cool with some afternoon clearing

We head up the hill for breakfast and find little open on a Monday morning.   A small coffee shop is serving crepes, perfect.  A bit of window shopping is on the agenda, as stores haven't opened yet.

We follow the pathway to the beach starting at the Boy and his Dog overlook.  Public walkways parallel the shore with apartments/condos along part of the walkway to the north and park and beach access along the walkway to the south.  It's a nice walk!

Our boat neighbors from the Langley marina are at the beach, too, walking their very large Irish setter doodle.  What a lot of long straight hair!  In their boat, the dog about fills their cockpit.  It's so mellow and friendly.
The stores have opened in town.  We visit the sculpture garden and gallery before shopping for some needed groceries at the fantastic Star Store.

After a lazy afternoon, we return to town for dinner, enjoying a pizza outdoors beside Village Pizza.  Next time we'll order the small size, they are huge!
It's a gorgeous and calm evening in the marina.
